Snail-Inspired Object
For this week lesson, we were separated into groups. Each group was given a task to come up with a snail-inspired object.
Within 20 minutes, we were instructed to brainstorm individually on five creative snail-inspired items in our respective groups. We were allowed to find them through google or came up with our own ideas. Afterwards, each one of us were supposed to choose one best item out of the five that we had chosen earlier, to be showed among our group mates. The pictures above were some of the items that each of us had chosen to be showed among our group mates. Then, among those items, we had to discuss and decide again on one best concept to be developed into a proposed object.
After much consideration, we had finally decided to choose this picture. We had come to an agreement on using the concept of bookshelf and the shape of a snail to be used for our proposed object.
After we had settled the selection process for choosing our concept, we moved on to discuss about how we wanted to improve the bookshelf. So, we decided to sketch all our ideas.
When we looked at all the ideas, they are so amazing. Hence, we decided to combine them all to create our proposed object. It was great to see many creative ideas being poured out into the groups. I thought that this was the benefit of group work that we were able to see all the different perspectives of each person in the group and combined them all to create a masterpiece. It was a lot easier and more efficient to do it together rather than only one person did all the thinking. Hence, teamwork was important.

We started drawing with pencil first. After that we outlined it with various colours of markers to decorate it. We wanted it to look pleasing to the eyes and hence capturing people's attentions.
We also wanted to explain its function indirectly to the audiences through the drawing. Hence, we occupied the bookshelf with books, vases and alarm clock drawings to make it look more realistic.
Besides the bookshelf which looked like the shell of a snail, we also added a couch to it. We purposely designed the couch this way so that it represented the head and the body of the snail.
We also decided to add an expandable-bed feature to the couch. This was to maximise the function of our proposed object so that it would bring convenience to the users. By having the 3-in-1 feature, this product would not occupy a lot of space. Hence it would cater to all types of room's sizes, especially for small rooms and apartments.
After we had finished drawing our product, we named it as 'Shelving Scouch" from 'S' brand. We called it 'Shelving Scouch' from 'S' brand because it was inspired from a snail. We wanted to emphasise the fact that this product represented a snail.
In conclusion, I was glad that we were finally able to come up with our proposed object. It was really fun working together and brainstorming with them.
